Augusten Burroughs booksigning
It was a pleasure to meet Augusten and get 2 of his books signed at the Durham event tonight. Funny thing is I ran into Auggie in the lobby and I just stared at him a minute and thought "what a close look-a-like (because I didn't expect the famous author to be in the theater lobby with the fans before the event). He kind of smiled and nodded to me and I went back to my seat and told Kim - there's a really good look-a-like in the lobby. To my surprise it was the real Auggie! Haven Kimmel and Auggie were interesting to listen to during the laid back Q&A time with the fans (I nervously asked the first question: how long have they been best friends; answer 8 years). We met some cool people (Haven's blog babies) from Nashville, Indiana, Michigan and the super nice owners of The Regulator bookstore in Durham who organized the event. Now I have to finish reading Sellevision (he wrote it in 7 days!), Something Rising and Iodine. I also want to read Possible Side Effects and re-read Magical Thinking. Haven and Auggie were so nice when they signed our books (She got up off the couch; Kim got Zippy and 2 others signed) and they both took the time to chat with us a few minutes. We also talked to Haven's daughter (Kat has 3 songs that I must google and listen), son named Augusten and husband, John. I wanted to tell Augusten he's my fav and but was afraid it would sound like "I'm your number one fan" from Misery movie and I didn't want to sound like crazy Kathy Bates fan so I just thanked Auggie for coming to NC since I didn't make it to Atlanta last year before he left for his international book tour. I love that Augusten replies to his fans' questions on Facebook and I had to join Twitter just so I can be a follower even though I don't have time for MS, FB. Twitter and this blog. I will stick to occassional blog entries and check FB when I get messages. Haven's blog is so funny. How will I have time to keep up?!
